SPORTS PHYSICALS
A sports physical, also known as pre-participation physical, is a medical exam used to check if an individual’s health is appropriate for the sport or activity they participate in.
We provide complete sports physicals for student, amateur and professional athletes. We provide student discounts for high school and college students. We can usually schedule your appointment the same or next day so that you can start your sport and activity without delay.
It is recommended that a sports physical be performed 6-8 weeks prior to the start of the sport’s season to have time for any medical conditions to be treated. Many schools and athletics require a sports physical annually prior to participation. Contact your school or organization to obtain the proper form required and bring with you to your appointment.

Frequently Asked Questions
Before you come in for your appointment, bring any physical forms and documents that you may need completed. If you do not have any forms, you should be aware of your prior medical history, past surgeries, and family history.
If you are a minor, you should bring your parents or legal guardian to the appointment.
First, your past medical history will be discussed as it relates to your current activity. The Clinician will discuss topics such as previous history of asthma, heart conditions, head injuries, muscle and joint injuries, diabetes, allergies, and if your family history includes heart problems.
The physical examination will include checking your blood pressure, heart rate, respiration, height, weight, and often vision. Then, the exam will be performed to check your body systems such as heart, lungs, abdomen, joints, strength, and balance.
After the physical, the Clinician will provide you with the completed forms for your activity or sport. Your general health and fitness will be assessed in the context of the particular sport you are playing, and if no conditions or limitations are found, as in most cases, you will be cleared to participate. If there is anything that needs further evaluation, patients may be asked to have further testing or evaluation.
The sports physical should be performed about six to eight weeks prior to the sport or activity beginning. This is so if any condition or injury is present, there is time to have any follow-up exams or treatment.
